Object Display Conventions

Each object type has different system attributes that capture important detail pertaining to the object type. Some of these attributes may contain drop-down menu items that can be changed to suit the needs of a given enterprise. Some of the system attributes are mandatory and new objects cannot be created unless these fields contain data. A mandatory attribute is displayed in bold print and the field where data is to be entered is shaded.

The following icons are located throughout the Content pane and allow for easier data input by the user.

  • Auto Number - Allows the user to display the next number in a given series if a number mask has been defined in System Defaults. If a system mask has been assigned to the field by the system administrator, an appropriate number is displayed in the field as soon as generation of a new object begins.

When using an existing mask, it is imperative that you know the length of the number and any special text surrounding the number data. The pound sign # is used to represent variables. For example, if you were using a mask that had the letters QA at the beginning of the numbering schema followed by three numbers, you would type QA### in the number field to get the next number in the QA sequence.

  • Lookup - Views a dynamic list of objects or invokes the appropriate object search pane.
  • Drop-down List or Calendar(for date fields) – Provides a standard drop-down list of selections to choose from or displays a calendar for selecting dates.
  • Check box – Allows the user to set or clear the field in which the box is located. This is basically a true/false type of field such as Serialized where the user is indicating that the object is to be a serialized object. If the box is set the object will be serialized. If the box is cleared, the object will not be serialized.
  • Go Back – Is usually presented alongside fields that contain parent object information, such as physical item number when you are viewing a serialized item or a work order number when viewing a work order task.
  • Restricted Data – This icon appears when a list may contain objects that are restricted from your view. This acts as a warning to users that there may be other related objects, but access is denied.

Object topics are listed below the main attributes in the Content pane. Many standard topic types (i.e. Attributes, Documents, Locations, etc.) appear for most object types. Topic headings appear in bold print if there is data contained in the topic box, otherwise it will be grayed out.

The following icons are standard for each data topic:

  • Expand first 10 rows – The first ten rows of information located in the topic selected will appear on the screen. If the topic contains more than 10 rows, a scroll bar appears at the right edge of the detail allowing you to scroll through the items. The icon will immediately turn into a Collapse icon.
  • Collapse – This hides the associated topic detail from view.
  • Expand Fully – This displays all detail for the topic you have selected. If the topic has 40 rows, all 40 rows will be displayed with a scroll bar located on the right side of the content pane to allow you access to all information. Once this icon is selected, the Collapse button must be used to once again to hide the relationship information.

The Hide and Show all links located at the top of the object attributes section of the Content pane allow the user to collapse (Hide) or expand (Show all) the possible topics associated with the object you are viewing.

When the Show all option is used the system will display all topics whether or not these areas contain information. White topic rows allow data input, while rows shaded in grey are for display purposes only.

When the Hide link is selected the system displays only those topics which contain data.
